Legion Paper was founded on March 21, 1994 based on an idea that originated in 1966 when Len Levine and Michael Ginsburg worked together selling commercial printing papers. Each had an interest in the fine arts, in the renaissance days of the 60's - the days of Rauchenberg, Johns, Motherwell and the like. It was an exciting time to be involved with the printmakers "squatting" in the not-yet-chic Soho area of New York. Art papers were manufactured by mills such as Arches and Fabriano for export into the US. The choices were very limited and as the creativity of these printmakers grew, so did our involvement with the other resources around the world. The more we worked with fine art, the more excited we became about the prospects of melding our paper knowledge with their printing expertise. The collaboration had begun.

With partner Ted Ginsburg, Michael and Len had the enviable task of finding new papers from every corner of the globe, for every form of art. Never before has a fine art paper company traveled as many miles, compiling so many papers from so many countries. We have been around the world many times visiting paper mills in the most remote papermaking regions - from Himalayan villages and northern Thailand factories to the sophisticated mill offices in Paris, London, Frankfurt and Florence. We've looked at, touched, ripped and folded more papers than we can remember. All to assemble the largest and most amazing collection of papers ever offered by one company. Bringing all of these papers under one roof took a lifetime of planning. In many cases it meant working side-by-side with artists and papermakers together to create papers no one realized were possible.

In 1998, the company took a big step forward with the opening of Legion Paper in Los Angeles. With warehouses on both coasts, we continue to improve our service, as well as our paper and printing knowledge.  In 2004, we opened a 37,000 sq ft state-of-the-art warehouse in New Jersey.  It is the largest facility of its kind, dedicated solely to fine art paper.

Now, as always, we are committed to our original mission - to continue to improve our service, to build strong relationships with our customers, and to discover those papers that will help fuel the creative process. If our years at Legion have taught us anything, it is that our success depends on the partnership between our customers and ourselves - one built on trust and confidence. When you need guidance, we're prepared to take whatever time is necessary so that you understand the features of each paper you're interested in.

Of course, our search still continues for the most intriguing and best performing papers - from delicate handmade papers that reveal intriguing texture and color with every sheet to the most technologically advanced digital printing papers produced today. Considering your demands for the most interesting papers, we will continue to climb the mountains and cross the seas in pursuit of excellence in paper.

We strive to be a value-added company. Our skilled customer service people have been in the fine art paper business for many years. When you tell us what you are trying to accomplish, we will offer the most cost-effective solution based on your needs. Our warehouse is always fully stocked, so the products you want are available, when you want them.

We are proud of our mission to stock over 3,000 different papers and to provide the best possible service before, during, and after the sale. We invite you to explore Legion Paper the way that suits you best - online, by telephone, fax, e-mail, or make an appointment to visit our showrooms on either coast.
