Originally a calligraphy and writing paper imported from China during the 18th century, Gasenshi is a Japanese handmade sheet made of mitsumata fibers with the addition of sulphite. It is neutral pH and sized for printing. Excellent for sumi-e brush painting.

Hosho is smooth on one side and slightly textured on the other. Creamy in color, very absorbent, and is also a very strong paper. Hosho is the best choice for relief printing due to its resistance to tearing. It is also a popular drawing paper. Also available as Hosho Student which is rougher in texture and typically used as a repair and restoration paper.
