Paper: Stonehenge 250gsm White
The fine art of silverpoint drawing requires a strong surface on which to apply a ground on which to draw with a silver stylus. My technique for creating the ground is akin to abstract painting using all or some of gesso, marble dust, watercolor, guache, acrylics, metal powder, and enamels, to paint a richly textured surface. Stonehenge gives me both great surfaces and archival assurances. It's the best paper for this unique form of drawing that dates back to the 15th century. Michelangelo, da Vinci, Rembrandt, Durer, all drew with silverpoint. They're good company for me to keep.
I have been drawing extensively with silverpoint for over 10 years, on an artistic journey that began at the Ontario College of Art & Design University over 44 years ago. I am privileged to be recognized internationally for my silverpoint work, both classical and contemporary, and as one of Canada's drawing masters. I am the founder of the International Silverpoint Archives and determined to bring greater awareness of this fine and highly valuable art form. I highly recommend Stonehenge for its ability to take a heavy workout yet retain its appeal as a sensitive fine art paper.
