Paper: Stonehenge 250gsm Cream
Kelly Papcun is a Michigan artist who uses Stonehenge paper for her collagraph prints because it stands up against all of the wear and tear that the collagraph process entails. A piece of Stonehenge is coated with a very thick layer of gesso which she scratches and presses various objects into while it is still wet to create a interesting bas relief effect. Once the gesso dries, she applies layers of ink and then scrubs it away until she gets the color density just right. She has now created a "plate." After a few test runs on newsprint, Kelly then lays the plate on a separate piece of Stonehenge paper that has been soaking in water for a few minutes and runs them through a printing press. The result is the piece that you see here. The plate can be used several times over.
