Three Couples by Melissa Miller Nece, CPSA

Three Couples
Paper: Stonehenge 250gsm Gray

I use Stonehenge for my portrait and miniature work because it's a superb 100% cotton paper that looks as good as it feels to work on. My eraser blending techniques can be pretty rough on a surface, but Stonehenge takes it and always looks elegant. For the same reason, I also recommend Stonehenge to my students. Some of my favorite pieces on Stonehenge are miniatures -- things that are no bigger than 5 or 6" across. I've done miniature drawings as small as 2" square, which means the grain of the paper has a significant effect on the work. Stonehenge has great tooth, but its texture is very fine, so it is a perfect surface for the tiny details of miniature art.

This piece, called 'Three Couples' is sized 16"x25" and was selected as 2006 Best of Show winner at the Florida Artist Group 56th Annual Exhibition.
