Description

This range of printmaking papers has set the standard for every mould-made grade manufactured in Europe.

A question that is often raised is what do the initials BFK stand for? They were the initials of the owners of the Rives mill in France at the beginning of the 20th century - Blanchet, Freres and Kiebler.

The BFK range of deluxe papers is mould-made, 100 % cotton,  neutral pH and tailored for all fine art printmaking techniques.  The sheet has a soft supple feel  that is internally sized with minimal surface sizing making it perfectly suited for all the traditional printmaking methods;  intaglio (etching, aquatint, messotint), engraving, stone lithography and all block printing applications.  All of these processes require a paper that has superb surface strength to prevent cracking around the edges from contact with the metal plates as a result of the pressure from the hand presses used.

As is the case with other deluxe mould-made papers this entire range with its supple soft handle is an outstanding choice for all drawing techniques: graphite, pastel and charcoal.

Rives Lightweight and Rives Heavyweight also had some minor format changes with reference to the deckle edges and grain direction - 26 x 19  115 & 175gsm is short grain with 2 natural deckles along the 19" one tear deckle & one cut edge along the 26" way.   The 26 x 40  115 & 175gsm is long grain with 2 natural deckles along the 40" and 2 tear deckles the 26" way.
